Push Back Racking
Cart-based deep-lane pallet storage — load and pick from a single aisle, with pallets rolling forward automatically as the front load is removed.
Push Back Racking
Push-Back Racking is a high-density LIFO pallet storage system that uses nested carts on slightly inclined rails. Pallets are loaded from a single aisle and pushed back on the carts as new pallets arrive. When a front pallet is removed, gravity rolls the next pallet forward to the pick face — no forklift enters the rack, no second aisle is needed.
- Load and pick from a single aisle — no drive-in access required.
- Deep-lane storage 2–6 pallets deep on inclined rail carts.
- Automatic pallet presentation to the pick face.
- Ideal for homogeneous SKUs held in medium-to-large quantities.
- Safer than drive-in — forklift never enters the rack.

Optimise Your Storage from a Single Aisle
Push-Back Racking gives you a large share of the density of drive-in racking without the forklift entering the rack. That means fewer accidents, less rack damage and faster pallet handling — a strong middle ground between selective and full high-density storage.
What is Pushback Racking
Each storage lane has a set of nested carts riding on inclined rails. Loading a pallet onto the front cart pushes the previous cart back into the lane. Picking the front pallet allows the next cart to roll gently forward under gravity — always presenting a pallet at the aisle face.
Advantages of Pushback Racking
Warehouses
High-density storage from a single aisle.
Cold Storage
Dense storage in freezer and chill rooms.
Distribution
Buffer between inbound and dispatch.
Manufacturing
Line-end finished goods holding.
Food & Beverage
Large-quantity, homogeneous SKUs.
Retail & FMCG
Buffer stock for high-turnover SKUs.
Key Features of Push-Back Racking
High-Density Storage
Deep-lane storage from a single aisle.
Multiple Pallet Depth
Typically 2–6 pallets deep per lane.
Improved Safety
Forklift never enters the rack, reducing damage risk.
Fast Handling
Automatic pallet presentation speeds up picking.
LIFO Rotation
Ideal for SKUs that do not require strict FIFO.
Low Maintenance
Robust cart-and-rail design with minimal moving parts.

- In-house cart, rail and upright fabrication
- Installation and load testing
- Operator briefing
- After-sales service and rack audits
The outcome is a push-back racking system that maximises single-aisle density safely — with a single accountable partner from design through service.
Types of Push Back Racking Systems
2-Deep Push-Back
Two pallets deep per lane — the simplest push-back configuration.
3- to 4-Deep Push-Back
Standard mid-density configuration for most warehouses.
5- to 6-Deep Push-Back
Maximum density for large SKU quantities.
Heavy-Duty Push-Back
Reinforced carts and rails for heavier pallet loads.
Cold-Store Push-Back
Coatings and clearances tuned for freezer and chill rooms.
Retrofit Push-Back
Push-back inserts installed into existing selective racking bays.
FAQs About Push Back Racking
Quick answers to the questions we hear most.
A high-density LIFO pallet racking system where pallets sit on nested carts on inclined rails, loaded and picked from a single aisle.
Typically 2–6 pallets deep per lane, depending on cart configuration and pallet load.
Yes — the forklift never enters the rack, which reduces damage and accident risk.
Push back is LIFO — last pallet in is the first pallet out.
Yes, with appropriate coatings and clearances.
